SR 22 filing is a type of car insurance form that is requested by most departments of motor vehicles in the country in certain situations. SR 22 is a proof of liability insurance as mandated by law and is normally issued by insurers for drivers who have been caught driving under the influence.
Aside from DUI, SR 22 filing is required for those who were caught driving without an insurance coverage after a road accident or other serious traffic violations. Drivers must have a vehicle insurance firm licensed in their respective states that will file for SR 22 in their behalf. It is also the responsibility of the insurance company to notify the state’s department of vehicle if the policy is terminated or lapsed for any valid reason. If the SR 22 is terminated, then the driver’s license can be suspended unless the driver can give proof of insurance coverage complying with SR-22 requirements.

Additionally, most states require drivers to fulfill SR-22 requirements even if they move to another state. Likewise, the minimum liability coverage of SR-22 may be kept if the driver gets a new vehicle insurance.
