Q: What is online SR22 ins?

A: Online SR22 ins is a category of car insurance that is required of some people who have committed certain offenses, such as driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or driving without insurance multiple times, or getting into a car accident while uninsured. Since most of these result in a suspended license, in order to get that license back, the driver must file online SR22 ins.

SR22 is a form filed by the car insurance company with the department of motor vehicles which verifies that the owner of the online SR22 ins policy is indeed insured. This verification is required for 2-3 years after the license is first suspended, depending on state laws.

If a person who is required to have online SR22 ins fails to get it, then their driver’s license will be suspended again. The only way for you to get out of paying for SR22 insurance is to simply avoid driving and allow your driver’s license to remain suspended for the 2-3 year period.
