Q: I’m a student and buy my SR22 bond online, but I really don’t have the money this month. Is there anything I can do?

A: First of all, do whatever you can to make sure you pay for your SR22 bond online this month, even if it requires making a couple of other sacrifices. If you don’t pay for your SR22 insurance, then you run the risk of losing your license, and it will cost a lot more in fees to get that reinstated plus buying more insurance.

Instead, look at the company where you pay for your SR22 bond online to see if they have any discounts. One such discount that almost every car insurance company offers is a good student discount. If you have good grades in school, are a full time student, and are under the age of 25, you can usually get this discount. Some companies require you to make an average of Bs, others are looking for a 3.5 GPA, so make sure you ask first.

Another discount often available to students who buy their SR22 bond online is a discount for if you go to school 100 miles or more away from your parents. If you do, and leave your car home with them, and stay on their insurance policy, your own monetary contributions will be negligible.
